The CRT joined together with the Virtual Institute for Bioinformatics and Evolution (VIBE) to host VIBE-ICBG 2024 in Galway on 5th &6th Dec!
The CRT’s annual conference ICBG has being going from strength-to-strength every year and this year joined together with VIBE to host VIBE-ICBG 2024 which had over 100 attendees and a fantastic energy and excitement enabling early stage researcher from all over Ireland and further afield to connect and hear about each others work.
As well as excellent poster and oral presentations from students we were also fortunate to have 3 world class Keynote Speakers.
Karen Miga from the University of California Santa Cruz on”The Human Pangenome Project: Creating a Reference that Better Represents Human Global Genetic Diversity”
Davide Cirillo from the Barcelona Supercomputing Institute on “Synthetic Data in Biomedical Research: From Knowledge Discovery to Knowledge Generation”
Elizabeth Bik a world renown expert of scientific fraud who gave a talk on “Errors and Misconduct in Biomedical Research”
Well done to the student organizing committee on an absolutory fantastic effort!
And finally CONGRATULATIONS to the best oral ad poster award winners- fantastic that 2 of our CRT student won best and runner up awards for best oral presentations!.
Best oral presentation went to Aideen McCabe a cohort 3 at UCC who gave a presentation on “Understanding Ovarian Cancer: Lessons Learned from Cells, Apps and Patients”
The oral presentation runner up prize went to Sophie Mathews a Cohort 3 student at the University of Galway who gave a presentation on “Variable gene copy number in cancer-related pathways is associated with cancer prevalence across mammals”
