The CRT writing retreat for cohort 3 & 4 students took place in Westport from 3rd-6th March
Students had the fantastic opportunity to get away from all the demands of everyday life to plan and write sections of their thesis or a research paper. The retreat took place in the Westport where the beautiful grounds of Westport House were perfect for a post lunch walk before knuckling down to the writing again.
Students discussed and agreed on a plan for the retreat with their supervisor and then reported back on progress afterwards. Students also outlined their goals for the retreat to all the other students present and then reported back to the group at the end of the retreat.
We were delighted that some students from Cohort 1 & 2, who have now graduated, zoomed in at the start of the retreat to talk about their own experiences of writing up their thesis and gave current students some fantastic tips, advice and practical suggestions. So a massive thanks to

The students made fantastic progress and it was also a useful exercise in giving students a realistic idea of what can be achieved in 3 days with no other distractions so they can plan accordingly! Write up styles varied with some students preferring an early morning start while others preferred the night owl approach – some students found the write-up room to be very helpful as it kept them on track seeing other students furiously tapping away on their computers while other students preferred preferred to find a quite space for themselves away from everything else.
