Our Cohort 2 students are flying ahead towards the finish line now with 4 students recently passing their viva’s !
Barry Scott, a PhD student in Trinity College Dublin and supervised by Lydia Lynch and Dave Finley passed his viva on 18th December. Barry’s project was on “Beyond Glucose Control: The Impact of Metformin on the Appetite-Suppressing Metabolite Lac-Phe and Fatty Acid Metabolism in Humans”. Barry is currently considering career options but would like to stay in Ireland and perhaps work in academia.
Yezhao Zhong, a PhD student at the University of Galway and supervised by Haixuan Yang passed his viva on 16th December. Yezhao’s project was on “Modelling and Predicting Drug (and Polypharmacy) Side Effects with Machine Learning Methods via Identifying and Integrating Heterogeneous Genomics Data”. Yezhao would like to go and work in another country initially but in the longer term would like to come back to work in Ireland.
Batuhan Kisakol, a PhD student at the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland and supervised by Jochen Prehn passed his viva on 19th December. Batuhan’s project was on “Integrating transcriptome data with tumour heterogeneity data to investigate treatment responses in colorectal cancer”. Batuhan will stay on to do a Postdoc with Jochen and in the longer term would like to stay and work in Ireland.
Darragh Nimmo, a PhD student at Trinity College Dublin and supervised by Adrian Bracken passed his viva on the 3rd December. Darragh’s project was on “Genetic Predisposition to Breast and Ovarian cancers – looking at the Irish Germline”. Darragh is now working as a Data Analyst for MSD in Dublin.
