Congratulations to 3 of our University of Galway CRT students who passed their viva’s with flying colours recently!

Fantastic to see another 3 of our Galway CRT students pass their viva’s!

Stephen Smith’s PhD project was on the “Application of genomics for honeybee improvement and protection” and he was supervised by Prof Grace McCormack. Stephen did his viva in July and is now doing a postdoc with Pilib O’Broin’s group at the University of Galway.

Amanda Forde did her viva on 29th July and was the first of our Cohort 2 students to pass their viva so well done to her! Ananda’s research project was on “More accurate and unbiased associations in genetic association studies with applications to Mendelian Randomization” and she was supervised by Dr John Ferguson. Amanda will stay on in Johns group to do a postdoc while considering the next career step.

Donal O’Shea, another of our Cohort 2 students, did his Viva on 12th Sept. Donal’s PhD project was on ” Methods and tools for cell-type specific gene set analysis” and he was supervised by Prof Cathal Seoighe. Donal is currently applying for jobs so the best of luck to him!
