The CRT will provide 4 summer scholarships at the University of Galway for undergraduate students in 2024.
Aims:
- Develop students research skills by giving them the opportunity to undertake a short research project.
- Enable students to understand how their skills can be applied in a research environment.
- Provide training and supervision so they develop new skills and specialist knowledge.
- Stimulate their interest in a career in genomics data science.
Application guidelines
- Eligibility of applicants
- Open to students at any stage but priority will be given to students that will be going into their final year this Sept.
- Degree related to maths, computing, biomolecular and biomedical sciences, medicine.
- From any nationality and university, provided they are residents in the EU and receiving full-time instruction at a university, college, school or other educational establishment.
- Application procedure
- A list of supervisors willing to host summer internships is provided in the table below. Students should contact supervisors to find a supervisor who is willing to support their application and supervise them for a 4-6 -week summer project.
- Supervisors can only be associated with one application- if more than one student is interested in doing a project with a supervisor then the supervisor will need to decide which student’s application to support.
- Students should email a single pdf file to genomicsCRT@universityofgalway.ie with:
- The name of the proposed project supervisor.
- The title and a short description of the research project (200 words maximum). Only computational projects will be considered.
- A short motivational statement from the student (200 words)
- A table containing percentage grades for all university modules completed to date. Provisional results for 23/24 academic year should be included.
- A letter of recommendation from the proposed supervisor
- Closing date 31st May 2024
- The scholarship provides funding at a rate of €400/week for a maximum of 6 weeks
- Applications will be reviewed by the CRT management team and applicants will be notified of the outcome in early June.
- The projects can be completed at any time during the summer as agreed by the student and supervisor.
- Students will be expected to provide a report at the end of the scholarship.
